Traveling with solid soap: pack dry, use on the go

A bar of soap takes up little space in your toiletry bag. The small challenge usually comes on the day of departure: you have just showered and the soap is still wet.

Before departure

Take a bar that you already know and tolerate well. For a few days, it does not have to be the largest bar. Choose a tin where the bar is not squeezed and that protects your luggage from moisture.

If possible, do not use the soap just before packing. Let it dry on an open rack. If you are in a hurry, carefully pat the surface dry and pack it only for transport.

Unpacking at your destination

Open the tin as soon as you arrive. A closed travel tin is no substitute for a draining soap dish. Even in a hotel, a spot away from the water jet helps. Do not place a wet tin on sensitive furniture.

One bar for everything?

That sounds practical, but it does not automatically fit. Body soap is not simultaneously shampoo or detergent. Stick to the instructions on your product instead of trying out several new applications while on vacation.

For flights, the current rules of the airport and the airline apply. Check these before packing, especially if you are also bringing liquid care products. You can find more everyday tips in our knowledge library.
