Cold outside, warm inside, and frequent hand washing in between: in winter, many people notice their hands more than usual. A simple, accessible care routine at the sink often brings more than a complicated new regimen.
Do not turn the water on too hot
Hot water feels tempting after a cold walk home. Lukewarm water is sufficient for washing. Use a mild cleanser that you tolerate well. Gently pat your hands dry afterwards instead of rubbing them vigorously.
Place your cream where you need it
Appropriate care placed right next to the sink reminds you to moisturize. It spreads well on slightly damp skin. For dry skin, fragrance-free products are often a better guide than those with intense scents.
Choose your soap consciously
A scent like that of our sandalwood soap may please you. However, this does not make the product a winter treatment or automatically suitable for cracked hands. If you have any complaints, stick to a mild cleanser you already tolerate and have persistent issues checked by a professional.
Think about the rest of the day, too
Gloves protect against the cold when outdoors. During housework, suitable protective gloves help to avoid unnecessary contact with detergents. You should not, therefore, reduce hygiene-related hand washing. Instead, adapt your cleanser and care products to your needs.
The solid soap itself needs a dry spot, such as on a round bamboo soap dish. In case of deep cracks, inflammation, or persistent itching, professional advice is recommended. Further basics can be found under cleansing for dry skin.
