Use up soap scraps without making it a project

Eventually, a bar of soap becomes a thin sliver. It is not quite ready for the trash, but it keeps slipping out of your hands. There are simple solutions for this.

Stick a small piece onto a large one

Moisten both pieces and press the scrap onto the flattest side of the new soap. Let them dry together. This does not work equally well with every shape and formula. If they come apart again, there is no need to press harder.

A pouch for small scraps

In a soap pouch, it is easier to grip several small pieces. Only use scraps that you tolerate well for the same purpose. Different scents can smell unusual when combined.

Rinse the pouch after use, clean it according to the care instructions, and hang it up in an airy place. A tightly packed, permanently wet pouch is not a good place for storage.

Not every way to reuse scraps makes sense

Filling a bottle with soap scraps and water does not simply create a stable liquid product. The mixture has a different composition and its shelf life is untested. It is better to stick with the solid bar.

If a scrap smells noticeably rancid or shows unusual changes, it does not belong in your scrap collection. Using up soap is good, but not at any cost.
